Blood test for colon cancer screening is approved by US regulators

Category: Health

The FDA has approved the Shield test, a noninvasive blood test for colon cancer screening in adults aged 45 and older. While not a replacement for colonoscopies, it offers a new option for those at average risk. The test detects DNA fragments from tumor cells and precancerous growths, but misses 17% of cancers. The approval is expected to enhance insurance coverage for the test, which costs $895 out-of-pocket.
