PEMA Reports 911 centers will have more funding thanks to surcharge increase

Category: Public Safety

The Shapiro Administration announced an increase in funding for Pennsylvania's 911 centers due to a surcharge increase, projecting $370 million for the 2024-2025 period. The second quarter revenue for 2024 reached $97.1 million, surpassing expectations. Act 34, signed in 2023, extends the 911 program and increases the monthly surcharge from $1.65 to $1.95 to address rising service costs. Staffing shortages are a concern, with efforts to hire more telecommunicators.
