Category: Public Safety

Pennsylvania's tax increase on cell phones to support the 911 system is generating higher than expected revenues, with over $97 million collected in Q2 2024. The increase in the surcharge from $1.65 to $1.95 is expected to raise $370 million by March 2025, aiding 61 call centers and enhancing Next Generation 911 technology. Despite the funding boost, staffing shortages persist in many counties.
