Why Sunday storms in Coachella Valley, high desert hit some areas harder than others

Category: Weather

Some areas in the Coachella Valley and surrounding mountains and deserts experienced major thunderstorms and heavy rain, leading to flooding, while other regions saw minimal to no rainfall. Monsoonal conditions caused localized storms due to the interaction of hot temperatures with moisture from the Gulf of California and Gulf of Mexico. Twentynine Palms received the highest rainfall with 1.87 inches, causing road closures and hail. Variability in rainfall amounts was observed across different locations.
