Two dead, dozens sickened in Kansas tuberculosis outbreak

Category: Health

A tuberculosis outbreak in the Kansas City metro area has resulted in at least 67 confirmed active cases and two deaths. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is working with the CDC to manage the outbreak, which began in January 2024. While the risk to the general public is low, health officials are conducting testing and contact tracing. Nationally, TB cases have increased, but the U.S. maintains one of the lowest TB rates globally.
