Preexisting sleep disturbances, including obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, and abnormal sleep duration, significantly increase vulnerability to COVID-19, hospitalization, mortality, and long COVID. A meta-analysis of over 8 million individuals revealed that these disturbances are often overlooked as risk factors. Younger adults and men are particularly at higher risk.
