Providence Bishop Richard Henning named archbishop of Boston, replacing Cardinal O'Malley

Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Richard G. Henning as the new Archbishop of Boston, succeeding Cardinal Sean P. O'Malley. Henning, who has been the bishop of Providence since May 2023, expressed his sorrow in leaving Rhode Island and emphasized his commitment to listening to the pain of those affected by clergy sexual abuse. He will be installed on October 31, 2024, while continuing as the apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Providence until a new bishop is appointed.
