Pope Francis Names New Leader for Boston Archdiocese

Bishop Richard G. Henning will succeed Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley as the leader of the Catholic Archdiocese of Boston, following O'Malley's retirement. O'Malley, known for his advocacy on various social issues, has led the archdiocese since 2003 during a tumultuous period for the church. Henning, currently the bishop of Providence, is expected to begin his tenure on Oct. 31.
