Norovirus is surging in parts of the U.S. again. Here's what to know about the stomach virus

Cases of norovirus are increasing in the U.S. this winter, with 91 outbreaks reported in early December. Norovirus is highly contagious, causing vomiting and diarrhea, and is the leading cause of foodborne illness. Symptoms typically appear 12 to 48 hours after exposure, and most recover within one to three days. Prevention includes frequent handwashing and disinfecting surfaces.
