Last Week’s Flash Flooding Event Considered Rare, But Could Become More Common

Two rounds of heavy rainfall caused flash flooding in south central Iowa, with 4-6 inches of precipitation recorded. State Climatologist Justin Glisan noted the unusual nature of the storm setup and rapid rainfall rates, leading to flooding even in non-flood plain areas due to saturated ground and overwhelmed storm sewers.
