FDA OKs First-In-Class Nonopioid Pain Med Suzetrigine

Category: Health

The FDA has approved suzetrigine 50 mg tablets, a nonopioid analgesic for adults with moderate-to-severe acute pain. It selectively inhibits the NaV1.8 pain-signaling pathway, providing effective pain relief without the addictive potential of opioids. The drug is approved for twice-daily use and was shown to significantly reduce pain in clinical trials. Common side effects include itching and muscle spasms, and it is contraindicated with strong CYP3A inhibitors.
