Blood test for colon cancer gets U.S. regulator approval

Category: Health

U.S. health regulators approved the Shield blood test for colon cancer screening in adults 45 and older, providing a noninvasive alternative to colonoscopies. The test detects DNA fragments from tumor cells and has shown to catch 83% of cancers, though it misses some precancerous growths. The FDA approval may increase insurance coverage for the test, which costs $895 out-of-pocket.
